According to Michel Foucault, on his book  ‘ Dicipline and punishment: The birth of prison’  he says todays survellience systems was born and used in panopticon prisons which were aimed to make the person their own guardian as they didnt know when they were being watched or not. So the old mental hospital in lisbon used this system and locked patients into cells facing towards to a controlling tower in a circular prison system. Was very impressive to been to a panopticon system and see art done by mental patients.
